Decorating your home used to be really simple-all you had to do was hire a professional decorator. Some people are still able to hire decorators. For most people, though, hiring a decorator is a luxury they cannot afford. Many people put off decorating their homes until they have more money because they think that home decorating is too expensive a project to begin. Here is some great news: you can easily and quickly decorate your entire home without depleting your bank account. Here are some things that you can do to decorate and save money.
Put your furniture in new places Sometimes creating a new look for a room can be as simple as moving the furniture in that room around. You can find inspiration in library books and magazines-you don’t have to spend any money on inspiration. Your couch does not have to live at the edge of the room-move it closer to the middle! Put the bed in a corner instead of in the middle of a wall. Don’t point all your furniture at the tv-create an atmosphere for conversation by pointing your “seating” furnishings at each other. Let the television sit unnoticed sometimes. Use decorative countertop containers for your kitchen utensils instead of leaving them in drawers. Moving things to new spaces is usually all it takes to make an entirely new look.
If owning your own art is something that you must do, create your own original art! Can you think of a better way to fill your home with original art than to make it yourself? Even the cost of art supplies is cheaper than the cost of an original painting or sculpture by someone else. Creating the art can be done in your spare time (and is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening). You could even turn it into a family activity. Your kids’ bedrooms can easily be decorated using the art work that the kids make themselves. If you are new to art, check a few instructional books or videos out of the library to help you get started. Then, when someone comes over and says “wow, who did that great painting?” You can say proudly “I did!”
