Stamina refers to your body’s endurance to physically stressful activities. As such, you need to hone your stamina so you could last longer in doing your day-to-day activities such as exercise. There may be times when you will feel that you are being dragged into doing the usual routines after several minutes of exercise. You may also feel that you are gasping for air after a couple of push-ups. These may be signs that your stamina is too low. To boost it, you can try to do these stamina-building exercises so you can get through the day and still feel energized.
Swimming. This is a stamina-builder you can do if you have access to an Olympic-size pool. You can also do this if you have your own pool. However you do it, this exercise will help you train your breathing. You will have to breathe at the perfect timing when you are swimming or else you would not be able to make a couple of laps. This exercise also does not put pressure on the joints, so you would still have stronger knees while practicing your endurance.
Bicycling. You can do this exercise using a stationary bike or a real fitness bike, whichever is easier for you to secure. Bicycling will help train your body to be more efficient when it is stressed. It will improve your heart’s pumping function and your leg muscles will also be enhanced. However, do not push yourself too hard by starting to build up your intensity first. What you should develop first is your mileage. After you train your body to take long hauls, then you can proceed to improving your intensity.
Step Climbing. The most accessible exercise that you can do is step climbing. You do not have to use any special equipment in order for you to execute this stamina-building routine. You can do this at work, at home or at school – or anywhere that has stairs. Before you proceed to walking up a stairs as part of your exercise, you should first establish a baseline for how far you can go without gasping for air. After every week, you should recheck and compare the number of stairs that you can climb comfortably.
With increased stamina, you will be able to do your usual activities more efficiently. Don’t forget that stamina training should not be rushed, but should be done as vigorously as possible given your fitness level. You will not make any gains in stamina if you are not incrementally increasing intensity. If you are not willing to spend a couple of months or so to train your endurance, then you might not be able to strengthen or build up your body because you will easily get tired when you exercise. Stick to it and your stamina will increase to healthy levels in no time.
