Cat Scratching Posts – Why cats need to scratch.

It is the nature of cats to want to scratch, they need to do it. Apart from helping the cat to keep its claws clean and sharp, scratching is also a very important part of the cat’s daily exercise.

The motions the cat uses while scratching on a tall cat scratching post or a cat tree make use of all the muscles in its front and back legs, shoulders, and back. Stretching just feels good to a cat!

Cat must have a good scratch every time they wake up from a nap, because it allows the cat to stretch and flex. If a cat is not able to scratch and exercise its muscles it will become weak, and its muscles get flabby.
Most cat owners are more concerned that their cats may ruin their furniture by using it as a scratching post, but this can be prevented by providing the cat with suitable cat furniture!

Most household furniture do not have the texture that cats prefer for scratching. Nature provides the wild cats with the rough bark of trees for scratching. If you can give your cat a similar rough and sturdy surface to scratch on, then your soft upholstered furniture just will not measure up, and you should not have to worry.

The answer? Cat Scratching Posts.
